What is The Difference Between A Flag & Banner?

While these terms can at times be used interchangeably, they do have distinct characteristics. Flag- a piece of fabric, usually flown from a mast or a pole. Flags are traditionally imprinted with an emblem or insignia that is used symbolically for signaling or identification. Flags can be printed on one or two sides and are usually finished with a header and grommets or a sleeve on the left hand side. Flag are normally sized by ratio, the most common being 1:2, 1:5 or 1:6, but each country, state and organization may have its own standard. Banner- a piece of fabric, vinyl, paper, or PVC that is hung on a wall, over an open area or mounted on a display stand. Usually banners are printed on one side with little to no bleed through on the back side.

Finishing for banners can vary depending on how the banner is being hung – for example, the banner can have a grommet in all 4 corners. What is the difference between a flag and a banner? Banners are most commonly hung on a wall or outside. Banners are usually more of an extended rectangular shape but there is not standard ratio or sizing.
